October is National School Principals Month and Andover is fortunate to have fantastic principals who have dedicated their lives to educating students.

Tim Hayden is the principal at Andover Central Middle School. He taught for five years and has been a principal for ten. Tim’s first job was sacking groceries for his dad at Bestway Grocery Store. His first teaching job was 2nd grade at Meadowlark Elementary. Tim’s favorite subject is science. He is motivated by wanting to make his family proud and by being better tomorrow than he was today. Tim’s favorite thing about his job is seeing the growth and change students make as kids in 6th grade to young adults when they leave as 8th graders. Tim’s favorite Andover initiative is Project Lead the Way classes. "Students are doing some really neat, real-world science and technology learning the district has never been able to offer before."

Crystal Hummel is the principal at Robert Martin Elementary. She taught for over 35 years and has been a principal for 27. Her first job was as a waitress and her favorite subject in school is math. Crystal is motivated by bringing joy and value to others’ lives. Her favorite part of her job is the connections with the students and the positive energy in elementary classrooms. The Andover initiative Crystal is most excited about is building leadership capacity in the district’s teachers. "That is the key to bringing life and success into educational organizations." Crystal is grateful to work in a district that has high expectations and support systems that promote creative thinkers and thriving schools.

Brent Riedy is the assistant principal and athletic director at Andover High School. He taught for 13 years and has been a principal for five. His first job was teaching math, his favorite subject, at AHS. Brent is motivated by the opportunity to impact students, adults and the community. His favorite part of his job is the students and staff he gets to work with. Brent’s favorite Andover Initiative is the Facilities Study and what may happen as the district moves forward with a plan.
