Sunflower Elementary

Dare's Physical Education

by Cicely Dare

April 21, 2006

Welcome back to another fun filled year of new activities and opportunities to learn about your own health!  Like last year we still have two physical educators at Sunflower in an effort to increase the number of minutes each Sunflower student receives in Physical Education.  Glenda Jones shares this responsibility with me by providing classes to the Kindergarten, First, and Second grade students in the morning while at the same time I am teaching Third, Fourth, and Fifth grades.  In the afternoon I teach afternoon Kindergarten, First and Second grades one time a week.  While I miss seeing these students in class more frequently it has been in the best interest of all  the Sunflower students to find a way to increase the amount of time they are in Physical Education.

Besides my duties as a Physical Educator here at Sunflower, I am also the head cross country coach at ACHS and an assistant track coach there as well.  One of the things that I like most about being able to go coach at our high school is that I have been teaching at Sunflower long enough that now the students I have taught in elementary school are in high school.  It is neat to get to see how much they have grown up and matured and have another opportunity to have a positive impact on their life as a coach.
