Hi my name is Sue Coffman and I am the senior counselor at AHS. I started teaching at AHS in August of 1989 and during that time I have been involved in many different aspects of the school. I have been a teacher and counselor, a coach and sponsor of both the junior and senior class, a parent, and I have served on many committees at all levels. This is a great place to be and offers many opportunities to students.
I grew up in Topeka Ks. the 2nd oldest of six children. I attended Shawnee Heights High School which at the time was a school of about 500 students, about the same size as Andover when I first started. I attended Washburn University and earned a BA in Home Economics Vocational Education and was a member of the volleyball and basketball teams. I started my teaching and coaching career in a 1A school in western Kansas, McCracken High School. In a 1A school you get a chance to do everything so I taught, coached volleyball, basketball and track, sponsored the cheerleaders and the pep club and ran 2 libraries. When my 3rd son was born I gave all that up to stay at home and raise my boys, and did so until the youngest was in school. I have been at AHS ever since. I started out as a FACS teacher and several years ago earned my MED in counseling at WSU. Since that time I have worked as a counselor at the high school.
I started this page with a quote that I think says a lot about seniors and what is going on in their lives. We have worked to give them the tools they will need to soar. Some have used them wisely while in high school and are preparing to continue when they leave AHS and some have a ways to go. Where ever they are on their journey this year offers many opportunities. As my web page develops I hope to add links to information that will help you as you prepare to spread your wings and soar.
