October 17, 2005

Meadowlark Elementary School fifth grade teacher Mike Wilbur was selected as the first KAKE-TV Golden Apple Award winner of the 2005-2006 school year.

Beth Jett from KAKE-TV, Dawson Grimsley from Davis-Moore, several representatives from Papa John's Pizza, Meadowlark principal Jody Baker, Superintendent of Schools Mark A. Evans and a host of others surprised Wilbur as he taught his class on Aug. 24.

The KAKE-TV Golden Apple Award is presented to teachers who go above and beyond, demonstrating creative teaching and adding even greater value to learning, according to the KAKE web site.

As a winner, Wilbur not only received the prestigious Golden Apple, but also $250 to spend for his classroom and a Papa John's pizza party for his class.
