School Board Recognition Month

January 10, 2006

The seven members of the Andover Public Schools Board of Education were recognized at the Jan. 9 meeting for their service to the community and the schools in honor of School Board Recognition Month.

School Board Recognition Month recognizes the Kansas Association of School Boards' members for their commitment to providing quality public education to Kansas' school children.  Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius has lent her support by declaring the month of January School Board Recognition Month in our state.

Kansans benefit every day from the dedicated energies and countless hours devoted by school board members.  These public servants are elected to serve by local citizens and receive no compensation for their tireless efforts.

The time spent in board meetings represents just a small fraction of the hours school board members devote to leading their districts.  They also work hard at seminars and training sessions to keep abreast of the latest trends in educational leadership, are deeply involved in community activities, and spend many hours in the schools and at extracurricular events.

A board of education member's job entails an endless string of meetings and school functions to attend; reams of reports, agendas, proposals and other information to read and study; and a host of difficult decisions to make.  Their love of learning, and concern and caring for students, staff and the community, drive board members' desire to lead so students can achieve.

The students and staff of Andover Public Schools thank the Board of Education for their commitment and dedication.  Board members include President Dale Graham, Vice President Nancy Kirkendoll, Jeff Ablah, Roger Elliott, Carly Haynes, Dr. Linda Hope and Clare Wilkins.
