June 11, 2005

KEVIN FINDLEY
Kevin Findley's musical instruction began at the piano as a first grader in Johnson, Kansas, under J.C. Chapman. After a move to Wichita, Kevin began playing percussion in the fifth grade. As a young percussionist he performed in many honor groups, including the Wichita Repertory Orchestra and Youth Symphonies under the direction of Drs. Bill Mathis and Jay Decker. Following graduation from Wichita Heights High School in 1983, he attended Wichita State University where he continued percussion studies with Dr. J.C. Combs.

While at WSU, Kevin performed with a variety of groups. His Bachelor of Music Education Degree was completed in the spring of 1988. He was hired in the fall of 1988 by the Wichita Public Schools and spent the next twelve years teaching band and orchestra at the middle and high school levels.  Currently, he serves as an instrumental music teacher in the Andover Public Schools.

While attending WSU and in subsequent years, the Wichita Symphony Orchestra frequently hired Kevin as an extra percussionist. In the fall of 1995 he became a member of the orchestra. Kevin also performs with Music Theater of Wichita and with various other groups as time allows. He is a member of the American Federation of Musicians, Local 297, and has served the orchestra as its ROPA Representative and as a member of the Orchestra Committee.
