Bond work is underway
June 15, 2006
The voters overwhelmingly approved a $39.68 million bond issue in September 2005, and work has begun to complete the bond projects. Howard and Helmer, Architects was selected for the bond projects. The Board of Education awarded the contract to complete the athletic facility improvements to Sauerwein Construction. They have already started working on the improvements to the athletic facilities at Andover Central High School and at the District Stadium.
Activity improvements outlined in the bond issue include District Stadium improvements such as upgraded press box, fencing, additional parking and adding a service drive to the concession stand. Improvements at the Central athletic fields will include additional parking for the football and baseball complex, as well as adding a concession stand, press box, and restrooms for the football complex.
The Board of Education approved Coonrod and Associates as the contractor to build the first new elementary school, scheduled to open in fall 2007 just north of 21st Street on 159th Street. A groundbreaking ceremony for the new school will be held later this month.
The Board is scheduled to open bids for Cottonwood Elementary School improvements and additions on June 16. Bids will be requested in the near future for additional bond projects.
