Mr. Brightup is in his eighth year as band director for the Andover School District.  He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Friends University in 1988.  Then, after working in the film industry in Los Angeles for five years, he returned to Friends to earn his Bachelor of Music Education degree in 1997.  Under Mr Brightup's direction, the Andover High School and Andover Central High School's Percussion Ensembles have received a "I" rating at state contest and at Tri-State every year.  The Drumline has received superior ratings each of the last seven years at various marching festivals as well.  In addition to teaching, Mr. Brightup enjoys keeping up his percussion skills by playing in various venues around the Wichita area.  His background contains a variety of musical styles including playing for the Off-Broadway show "Ram In the Thicket" in New York City, playing jazz with the Jazz Friends Commnity Big Band, and recording three CD's with nationally known choral composer, John Leavitt.  He and his wife, Jennie, have a son, Nathaniel and a daughter, Noelle.
