Pioneer League Expands
This year the Pioneer League gained 7 new members. The current league members are Andover, Andover Central, Ark City, Augusta, Circle, Derby Red, Derby White, El Dorado, Goddard Eisenhower, Haysville, Haysville West, Hutchinson, Maize, Maize South, Mulvane, Newton, Praire Hills, Robert Goddard, Rose Hill, Valley Center, Wellington, and Winfield. The new league members will include Haysville West, Newton, Ark City, Winfield, Circle, El Dorado, and Rose Hill.
One reason for the expansion of the league was to provide competitive equality among the schools based on their enrollment. The league is divided into four divisions based on the current enrollment count at each school. Once the divisions have been established, the schools will do a recount every two years to maintain parity among the league members. Another benefit of the expansion is that more athletes will experience success. Instead of one league champion, there will now be one from each division. The expansion of the Pioneer League is an exciting endeavor that should be met with enthusiasm and support.
Division 1: Derby Red, Derby White, Newton, Hutchinson, Maize South
Division 2: Goddard Eisenhower, Maize Middle School, Prairie Hills, Robert Goddard, Valley Center
Division 3: Andover, Andover Central, Ark City, Haysville, Haysville West, Winfield
Division 4: Augusta, Circle, El Dorado, Mulvane, Rose Hill, Wellington
