Drivers Education Program

March 05, 2008

Andover Public Schools is pleased to announce plans for the 2008 Drivers Education Program. Students will have the option of enrolling in either an on-line or traditional option:

ON-LINE
Students that enroll in the on-line course will receive course books and will be allowed to access coursework via a web address and a password that will be provided. To pass the course, students must have 80% mastery on unit tests and the final. Students are encouraged to do the chapter reviews at the end of the units to help prepare for each unit test, and to use the study guide for the final. All unit tests must be completed before taking the final. Students will have access to the material for a 4 week period from April 28 through May 27. The final is required and will be administered at Andover Central High School at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 31, 2008.

TRADITIONAL
Students will still have the option of taking the course in the traditional classroom model. The class size will depend on the number of students who take this option, but it is usually very large. Students must attend all classroom sessions. The dates and times of the sessions are:

Saturday, April 26, 9 a.m.-12 p.m. at ACHS

Saturday, May 3, 9 a.m.-12 p.m. at ACHS

Saturday, May 10, 9 a.m.-12 p.m. at ACHS

Saturday, May 17, 9 a.m.-12 p.m. at ACHS

Tuesday, May 27, 9 a.m.-12 p.m. at ACHS

Wednesday, May 28, 9 a.m.-12 p.m. at ACHS

Thursday, May 29, 9 a.m.-12 p.m. at ACHS

Friday, May 30, 9 a.m.-12 p.m. at ACHS

Saturday, May 31, 9 a.m.-12 p.m. at ACHS

The driving portion of the course is the same for both options. Students will sign up for an 8 day session (weekdays only). We will fill each session by age (oldest to youngest) for the applications received by March 14. Any received after that date will be assigned according to when received rather than age.

Students receive high school credit for this course and the grade will count toward their accumulative G.P.A. The driving portion of the test accounts for 60% of their final grade. Their driving skill could impact their final grade. A copy of the course curriculum is available upon request.

Several meeting dates are set to further explain the Drivers Education Program. Parents and students are invited to attend. The dates and times for the meetings are:

Wednesday, Feb. 27, 7:50 a.m. at AMS
Wednesday, Feb. 27, 10:30 a.m. at ACMS
Thursday, Feb. 28, 9:25 a.m. at AHS
Friday, Feb. 29, 10:30 a.m. at ACHS

To complete enrollment please fill out all 3 pages of the application and return to Jenise Hurley at Andover Central High School, along with payment, by March 14.
