will open Monday, August 18, 2008
Andover Public Schools is set to open two new school buildings in August – Wheatland Elementary School, 15200 E. 21st St., Wichita, KS 67230, and Meadowlark at Prairie Creek Elementary School, 654 YMCA Drive, Andover, KS 67002. Due to the unpredictable nature of construction timelines and the multiple factors involved in opening a new school facility, the opening has been briefly delayed until August 18. All other schools in the Andover school district will begin on August 14 (see back to school information listed below).
“This minor delay will ensure that these facilities are ready to go for all students on August 18, and though they will start two days later than our other schools, it will not affect the length of their school year,” said Superintendent of Schools Mark A. Evans. “We look forward to welcoming students to these wonderful new buildings on August 18.”
All students in grades 1 through 5 who will attend Wheatland or Meadowlark at Prairie Creek will begin on Monday, August 18, though Kindergarten and the Four Year Old Pre-School Program will not begin until Thursday, August 21. Kindergarten screening for these schools takes place on August 18, 19 and 20.
All enrollment paperwork for the two new schools (see “enrollment information” tab at www.usd385.org) may be mailed or brought in to the District Office, 1432 N. Andover Road.
Walk-in enrollment for Wheatland will take place at Robert M. Martin Elementary School, 2342 N. 159th St. E., Wichita, KS 67228, and walk-in enrollment for Meadowlark at Prairie Creek will be at the old Meadowlark building, 1411 N. Main in Andover.
Students new to the district may enroll from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 to 4 p.m. on Monday, August 4. Returning students, who have attended Andover Public Schools in the past, may enroll from noon to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, August 5.
Andover Public Schools Back to School Information
First Day of School
The first day of school at Andover Public Schools is Thursday, August 14, for any student new to the district, as well as all returning students who are entering first, sixth or ninth grades.
The first day of school for grades two through five, seven and eight, and ten through twelve, is Friday, August 15.
The first day of school for Kindergarten and Early Childhood students is Tuesday, August 19.
Enrollment
Enrollment information is available online at www.usd385.org. Click on the “Enrollment Information” tab at the top. Forms may be printed, completed and then mailed to your child’s school or brought in on the designated enrollment day. Contact your child’s school for additional information.
Enrollment for new students will be from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 to 4 p.m. on Monday, August 4 at the school your child will attend.
Returning students will enroll from 12:30 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, August 5 at their school.
Please note: Students who will attend Wheatland Elementary School will actually enroll at Robert M. Martin Elementary School. Students who will attend Meadowlark at Prairie Creek Elementary School will enroll at the old Meadowlark Elementary School building (1411 N. Main, Andover, KS 67002).
All enrollment forms for Wheatland Elementary School and Meadowlark at Prairie Creek Elementary School may be mailed or brought to the District Office, 1432 N. Andover Rd.
