6th Grade Language Arts
What on earth is language arts???? Let me tell you. It is the study of so many things: writing, grammar, usage, mechanics (punctuation),figurative language, text types and structures, reading, novel studies, research and so much more. That is why they had to give us two class periods to teach all of it.This is a blocked (two period) class. Sixth grade is such an exciting year and I look forward to being your teacher. I will give you specific guidelines in class that will help you become a successful student. Always do your best and ask for help when you need it. One of the hardest things to learn in 6th grade is that "organization is critical". We will help you with that as well.
About Me
I have been a teacher for 40 years in several different places: U.S. Virgin Islands, Garden Plain,KS, Blessed Sacrament. I am wife to my mechanic husband, Michael for the past 39 years. I am mother to Mika, Merek and Donnie. I am a new grandmother to Tripp. We moved to Andover in 1983 from Wichita and have seen all the growth as well as the tornado of 91. I subbed in the district for eleven years and when all three children were in college at the same time, I began full time teaching again. I love sixth grade and look forward to walking into this building each day. Speaking of my "walking " brings up another item of interest. I had a bottom leg amputation on the right in 1998. This has been a slight bump in my life's journey, but nothing of great consequence. Don't be afraid to talk to me or ask me anything about it. I am looking forward to a great year.
