Aargh, Matey!  You sent your babies to me as boys and girls, and we have transformed them into sea-faring pirates!  For the remainder of the year we will be having so much fun with our pirate unit.  We have talked in our class how pirates were not good people.  We even briefly discussed the recent pirate attacks we’ve heard about in the news.  However, we decided that we are only good pirates.

Our tables are now ships (adorned with flags,) we are now a crew aboard our ships, and each ship is earning treasure to buy fun stuff at the end of each week.  What fun!  Everyone even has their own job aboard the pirate ship.

During all our fun we have managed to squeeze in some learning as well.  We’ve created telescopes, worked on rhyming words, reviewed letter sounds, practiced writing letters and words, reviewed numbers, designed pirate ships, made an octopus, learned the letter Oo, and drew pirates.

Thank you for all the wonderful cards this week.  Mrs. Leigh and I really appreciated the kind words and creative work that went into making them.  I will cherish the special memories with your children this year.
