Language Arts with Mr. Hobbs

Where Learning and Fun Come Together

August 13, 2008

Welcome to Language Arts!

My name is Mr. Hobbs.  I am a Wichita State University graduate and am in my third year here at AMS.  I grew up in the area and am very excited to be teaching in a wonderful district.  I teach 8th grade Language Arts.

A Few Topics to Be Covered in the School Year

     8th Grade:  Grammar and Punctuation

Novels and Short Stories - which include Stealing Freedom and Night.

Effectively using the Writing Process to complete quality essays

       One Research Paper

8th Grade Syllabus

Tips to Being Successful in my Class

  • Be Prepared - Have all materials and assignments in class each day.  Preparation is the key to success!
  • Be Organized - Accordion Folders are used in my class to help students keep their files organized.  I also have provided each class a cabinet in my room to keep materials.
  • Be Flexible - Sometimes problems arise and plans need to change.  It is important to be able to roll with the punches.
  • Communicate Effectively - If problems arise, it is important that I am aware.  If you are struggling or would like extra help, come talk to me and we can work something out!  No problem is ever too big to deal with!
  • Study, Study, Study - This relates directly to being prepared and organized.  Do not expect to not take notes or read a story and be able to earn an A.  Not all people have the same abilities, so some will need to study longer than others.  I am always available to provide study tips.

I am very excited to be working with your students.  If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please feel free to email me or call me at school.
