6th Grade Health Education

Course Description: Welcome! Health class meets every day for nine weeks. It is a part of the K-9th grade Coordinated Health Curriculum Program approved by the USD #385 Board of Education. This course is required in the exploratory block sequence. Students will study units on physical, mental, and emotional/social health. Main topics covered are stress, goal setting, tobacco use, decision-making, nutrition, circulatory system, human sexuality and AIDS education. Emphasis is on the cardiovascular system with a cow’s heart dissection as the highlight activity of the unit.

 

Class Expectations: To be prepared for class each day, you will need:
1. Any completed assignments due that day
2. Your AMS agenda book
3. Writing utensil (pencil, blue or black ink)
4. Paper

Grading Scale: as noted in AMS agenda book


What Mr. Murray is firm about:

1. IN your seat and QUIET when the bell rings
2. Safety – when dealing with health issues and equipment
3. Anything that interferes with another student’s quality of health, such as disrespect, teasing, bullying, and bothering other’s property.
4. Only one late work assignment will be accepted per student! You will be given full credit for this one assignment.  You will have various ways to help you remember each assignment 
 Time given in class to write assignments in your agenda book.
 Assignments posted on board in front of the class.
 Verbal reminder the day before it is due.
 Assignment updates posted on www.new.schoolnotes.com

Specific Health Rule – Confidentiality – Never mention someone else’s name or relationship to you when sharing health information about them to the class.

Cheating Policy - Cheating will result in a 30 minute detention and a zero will be given for the assignment.

Absence/make-up policy - Students will be given 2 class days to hand in work for each day absent.
