The focus of AMS physical education is to maintain or continue the overall physical and social development of all students.  Students will participate in a wide array of physical activities to keep them active throughout their lives.  Students will also learn respect, responsibility, and communication skills to help them succeed in society.

Class Syllabus

Gym Suit:  (7 & 8th grade)-  Students are expected to attend and suit out everyday in proper PE attire.  If a students fails to suit out then they will lose (10 daily points).  The proper gym suit includes:  School issued:  Dark blue shorts, white t-shirt.  Students are responsible for providing white socks and tennis shoes. (must fit tightly enough that they don't come off during physical activity).  The gym suit should be taken home and laundered once a week.  If a students suit is "in the wash", then it is acceptable to wear dark blue/black shorts and a white t-shirt (have name on the back of the shirt) in place of their PE uniform.  Sagging pants is against school policy and will be enforced in PE class.  All students will wear their shorts around their waistline and tuck their shirts in.

Gym Suit:  (6th grade)- Wear comfortable clothes (something you can be active in) and tennis shoes!

 Jewelry:  All students are expected to remove all jewelry, headbands, watches, friendship bracelets, necklaces, etc. during class.  Failure to do this will result in a 10 pt. Deduction off of a student's dress points.

Class Participation:   Students are expected to dress out and participate everyday.  If a student is injured/sick, a note from a parent/doctor is required in order for the student to participate.  The students will receive 10 daily points for participation.  Every student, regardless of ability, is expected to give all out effort and try to the best of their ability each and every day.  Failure to do this will result in a deduction of their daily participation points.

Grading:   Physical education grade will be graded in 5 areas:  participation, dress, tardiness, behavior, and any written assignments given throughout the year.  Each student will be given 20 daily points each day.  If one of the above five requirements are not met, then a student will lose 10 points.  Yes, it is possible to receive negative points for the day.  Ex:  If a student does not suit out (-10), does not participate (-10), and was tardy to class (-10) = then that student will actually lose (30) daily points.  PE grades will be calculated based on the following grading scale

A= 90-100%   B= 80-89%      C= 70-79%     D= 60-69%     F= 59% and lower

Make Up Work

If a student misses class for any reason, time must be made up.  Make up dates will be designated each month in which students must attend in order to receive credit for the days missed.  Sessions will include a mixture of aerobic, muscle strengthening, endurance, and coordination activities.  Sessions will last 20 minutes.  Sessions will be supervised by an AMS physical education teacher.

If a student has sustained a long-term injury, they are not required to make those days up.  Instead they will assist the teacher during class time with various chores (refereeing, score keeping, cleaning, etc.)

LONG TERM INJURY= ANY INJURY IN WHICH A STUDENT IS FORCED TO MISS 5 CONSECUTIVE PE DAYS DUE TO THE INJURY.  (Must have a DOCTOR'S note)
