Koehn, DuFrain named Teacher of the Year nominees

Sarah Koehn and Amenda DuFrain

Sarah Koehn, theater teacher at Andover High School, and Amanda DuFrain, first-grade teacher at Wheatland Elementary School, have been named the Andover Public Schools nominees for 2024 Kansas Teacher of the Year.

Both teachers were surprised with the news during class on Wednesday, surrounded by their students.

Koehn has taught in Andover since 2004.

"Ms. Koehn provides her students meaningful learning opportunities and maintains high expectations," said Brent Riedy, AHS principal. "The culture she has created within her classroom and during productions is one of equity and inclusion where students feel safe and connected."

DuFrain has taught in Andover since 2010.

"Amanda is everything a professional educator should be," said Elton Armbrister, principal at Wheatland. "She is student-focused with a quality balance between being a nurturer for elementary children and high academic expectations. She is well respected by everyone at Wheatland!"

Regional finalists will be named in March, with the Kansas Teacher of the Year announced in September 2023.
