Congratulations to Kaitlyn Cowen, Alexander Engels, Amanda Perez and Connor Sutton, all from Andover Central High School, for being named National Merit Semifinalists! The students will compete with other academically talented seniors for an opportunity for one of some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth about $32 million.

The nationwide pool of Semifinalists represents less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors. The pool consists of students who scored the highest on the SAT/PSAT in each state, proportional to the state’s percentage of graduating seniors. Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist level of the competition. About 90 percent of the Semifinalists are expected to attain Finalist standing, and about half of the Finalists will win a scholarship. The Finalists will be notified in February.
