Congratulations to Kelly McMains, first grade teacher at Prairie Creek Elementary, for being named a 2016 Kansas Horizon Award winner! The Kansas Horizon Award Program, sponsored by the Kansas State Department of Education, identifies and recognizes representatives of excellent teaching in the elementary and secondary classrooms of the state.
Prairie Creek Elementary Principal Shelley Jonas says “Kelly is not afraid of hard work, particularly when it involves what is best for children. Kelly puts in many hours each day to make sure she is providing a learning experience for her first graders that is top of the line. It has been a pleasure to work with a new teacher with such promise of being a master teacher.”
The mission of the program is to recognize exemplary first-year teachers who perform in a way that distinguishes them as outstanding. Horizon Award nominees are selected by the building principal, superintendent and school district. McMains and the 31 other Horizon Award winners from around the state received this distinction and will be honored at a special ceremony during the Kansas Exemplary Educators Network (KEEN) State Education Conference in February.
