Meadowlark Elementary: Final drawings are nearing completion for the new Meadowlark Elementary, which will be constructed near the southeast corner of 13th and 159th streets. The project is scheduled to go out for bids this week, with construction set to begin in April.
The 78,000-square-foot school will include space for three sections of each grade, with room to expand to accommodate future District growth.
Highlights of the design include:
A ceremonial groundbreaking is scheduled for 1 p.m. April 24, with a rain date of May 7. The school is scheduled to open in fall 2020.
Middle school additions: Designs for additions at Andover Middle School and Andover Central Middle School are underway. Architects are meeting with staff to get input. The plans will be completed in late May, with construction set to begin in July and completed by the fall of 2020.
Andover High School: Construction is on schedule at the new AHS being constructed behind (or to the east of) the existing AHS. Most of the footprint is now under construction, and progress soon will be visible above the existing structure from Andover Road.
The new AHS will open to students in fall 2020. The new facility will be 298,000 square feet, with 240,000 of it new construction. The existing gymnasiums, weight room, locker rooms and shops will remain.
Andover CAPS: Preliminary designs are being completed for the new Andover CAPS (Center for Advanced Professional Studies) building, which will be constructed on the same land near 13th and 159th streets as Meadowlark Elementary. Construction is scheduled to begin over the summer, with the building complete for the 2020-21 school year.
Andover Central High School: The outside portions of four of the five additions are now complete, with the concrete slab poured on the fifth addition. Renovations to the existing portions of the building will take place this summer and be ready when students and teachers return for the 2019-20 school year.
