Bond update: What you might have missed over the summer

What a busy summer of progress on our bond-related construction projects!

The district now has guaranteed maximum prices bid for 98 percent of the $188 million in bond projects voters approved in May 2017. The district still has 30 percent of the contingency funds it set aside at the beginning of the projects.

Here’s a recap of what you might have missed over the summer:

ACHS new collaboration space

Andover Central High School: Remodel and renovation work is nearing completion at Andover Central High School. New spaces include collaboration spaces, new science laboratories, an orchestra room and a multi-purpose room. The work also included renovation of several classrooms and reconfiguration of the office to allow secure entry at the front doors. Crews now are finishing up punch-list items.

New Andover High School

Andover High School: More than 90 percent of the blocks have been put in place for the new Andover High School, and 40 percent of the bricks are in place. The new school, which will be around 200,000 square feet and sits behind the existing AHS, should be ready for move-in around the end of the 2019-20 school year.

New Meadowlark Elementary School

Meadowlark Elementary School: The slab for the new Meadowlark Elementary, near 13th and 159th streets, has been poured and block work has begun. The new school will be ready for the 2020-21 school year.

Middle schools: Construction is beginning on the addition and renovation projects at Andover Middle School and Andover Central Middle School. Projects at each school include expanding science labs; adding a second gymnasium, orchestra room, wrestling room and weight room; renovating office spaces for controlled entry; and other renovations.

District stadium locker rooms

New locker rooms and concession stand at District Stadium

Athletic improvements: The new locker room/concession stand at District Stadium are nearing completion and will be ready for football season. Demolition of the existing locker room structure will happen after AHS is complete, because Stadium Bakery will move to the new school. Meanwhile, crews spent much of the summer preparing the site for the new stadium to serve ACHS and ACMS, as well as the district-wide tennis stadium. Also, work on the middle school tracks should be done in the next few weeks.

Sunflower drive: A new pick-up and drop-off drive was created at Sunflower Elementary School.

Still to come: New district-wide swimming facility and District Office.
