Hillary Barscewski named Kansas Master Teacher

Congratulations to Hillary Barscewski, first-grade teacher at Cottonwood Elementary, who has been named a 2020 Kansas Master Teacher by The Teachers College at Emporia State University. The honor goes to educators “who demonstrate the attributes of exemplary professional educators." Each Master Teacher will be honored on Master Teacher Day on April 1 at Emporia State University and presented with a check for $1000.

Barscewski earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Newman University in 2003 and her master’s degree in building leadership from Newman University in 2008. She completed her ESOL endorsement from Newman University in 2015. She began her teaching career in Wichita in 2004 and has taught first and second grades. She joined Andover Public Schools in 2008.

Only seven Master Teachers are named each year. Ten Andover educators have been named Master Teachers since 2000.
