Tuesday update

Posted Date: 03/24/2020

Dear Andover Families,

Today was a busy day!

This morning, our Food Service staff served breakfasts and lunches to more than 325 children at three locations in Andover. We are proud to provide this service to families at a difficult time, and would be glad to serve many more if needed. Thank you to all who worked hard to make this happen.

As a reminder, these meals are available to anyone ages 1-18, from 8-9:30 a.m. Monday through Friday, at Prairie Creek and Cottonwood elementaries, and Andover Central High School. There is no requirement to be a student of Andover Public Schools, nor is there a requirement to qualify for free or reduced lunches. We know many families are suddenly facing new challenges, and we are here to help.

A few updates this evening:

  • Each of our building staffs met via video conferencing today. I’m hearing that they enjoyed seeing and hearing from one another, even if it was a little different to do it remotely. For the rest of the week, our educators will be receiving professional learning and planning for what school looks like for the rest of the 2019-20 year. We are excited to resume lessons next week!
  • You should have received a message from your building(s) today outlining the process for retrieving your student’s or students’ personal belongings. If you have questions about the process, please contact your school(s). We ask your patience in making sure we keep appropriate social distancing (6 feet, no more than 10 people in one room). I know many of our students will be relieved to be back with their belongings.
  • As a reminder, our Continuous Learning Task Force is finishing up a playbook for families that will give you a ton of resources, tech tips, best practices and other ideas to make this process manageable at home, no matter your home learning. We also plan to send a video to walk you through this playbook. Please expect this no later than Thursday.
  • As our educators move forward with plans for reconnecting with our students in the following days, I would encourage students at the middle school and high school level, and parents at all levels, to check their email on a regular basis for invitations to online meetings and other updates. This will be key in making sure all students are on the same page.

Thanks as always for your patience and grace as we move forward with our Continuous Learning Plan. We are making progress! We will share more about our journey soon.
