Congratulations to the Quiz Bowl Teams at Meadowlark, Sunflower and Prairie Creek Elementarys for placing in the Andover and Great Plains districts at the Thinking Cap Quiz Bowl!
The annual fifth grade Thinking Cap Quiz Bowl for the southern elementary schools in Andover took place Nov. 9. The contest is open to students in Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota and North Dakota and there were a total of twenty-three fifth grade teams competing. The quiz is a self-scoring, computer contest of 100 multiple-choice questions. Areas covered include math, geography, government, sports, spelling, science, literature, English, history, general information and just plain fun trivia. Team members watch the promethean board while one team member enters the team’s answers into the computer. Points are awarded based on speed and accuracy. Teams get two chances for each question to answer correctly. No adult assistance is allowed! First and second place teams are awarded with individual ribbons and a school trophy.
Meadowlark Elementary took second place in the Andover district and second in the Great Plains competition. Team members include: Ellie B., Kendall D., Addison M., Trevor S., Hayden S., Landen C., Jaxon C. and Ethan F.
Sunflower Elementary took fifth place in the Andover district and tenth in the Great Plains competition. Team members include: Kolby S., Emily S., Arya B., Emma V., Marcel V., Falon D. and Bryce B.
Prairie Creek Elementary took sixth place in the Andover district and twelfth in the Great Plains competition. Team members include: Gage S., Alex T., Carson B., Sebastien L., Olivia H., Peighton A., Korbin H., Zaydie L., Abby W. and Raley M. All three teams are coached by Stacey King, the Extended Learning Program Teacher.
