Over the last ten months, approximately 160 people including parents, staff, students, community members and officials, have participated and been involved with the creation of the Andover District Master Facilities Plan. The Facilities Steering Committee focused on 11 goals, focusing highly on the safety and security of students, retaining smaller schools and equity across the district.
Early in the process, educational specifications were determined by committees at a variety of levels: elementary, middle, high, athletics and district support. After the specifications were set, planning teams reviewed the prior teams’ work and set forth creating a plan. The district Steering Committee took both educational specifications and planning teams’ work to create a district-wide master facilities plan.
Along with current needs, future growth has played a significant role in planning for our facilities. An enrollment/demographic study was conducted by RSP Associates. It found Andover enrollment is growing 0.5 percent at elementary schools, 1.25 percent at middle schools and 2.2 percent at high schools per year. Compared to enrollment in the early 2000’s, these are very slow but steady growth rates.
The Steering Committee presented their recommended Master Plan to the Board of Education on Dec. 12, 2017. The plan is below:
