UPDATED: Stay to Learn testing expands to all eligible students, staff

Posted Date: 09/15/2021

We are pleased to announce that beginning Thursday, Sept. 16, our Stay to Learn Covid testing will be available to all eligible students and staff. We appreciate your patience as we have rolled out this testing slowly by grade level to ensure we have the capacity to complete the program efficiently and effectively.

As a reminder, here are the details of the program:

This testing is completely optional and is designed to keep students who are deemed high-risk close contacts in school whenever possible, provided they test negative daily and are not experiencing any Covid symptoms. Students are NOT eligible for Stay to Learn testing if they:
  • Are a household close contact in the first 10 days of quarantine.

  • Have not been deemed a close contact.

  • Do not have an appointment.

  • Are experiencing Covid symptoms.

Stay to Learn testing is funded through a grant from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, which will cover all costs associated with the testing.

As a reminder, here is an overview of the Stay to Learn testing:

  • The testing will be done at the temporary District Office, located at 1411 N Main St.

  • There is no fee for the testing that the district will be providing.

  • Testing hours will be 7-9 a.m., noon-2 p.m., and 3-5 p.m. Monday-Friday. The test results are valid for 24 hours, so it is important that you test within that 24-hour window each day. For example, a student could be tested at 8:30 a.m. each day of the Stay to Learn program.

  • We are using an online appointment system for testing. For those who are eligible, you can sign up at this link: or by using this QR code:

  • It is essential that you report to 1411 N. Main St. at your scheduled time to ensure that your testing can be completed in a timely manner.

  • Participating in Stay to Learn is an option that families can choose rather than quarantine.

  • Students participating in Stay to Learn must wear a mask at school for the duration of their daily testing period.

  • Testing requires daily parental permission. Both the parent and student under the age of 18 must be present during the testing.

  • The test that will be administered is the BinaxNOW rapid antigen test from Abbott. It consists of an anterior nasal swab specimen that will be collected by a trained health professional. Results are available in approximately 15 minutes.

  • The testing will be for asymptomatic students and staff. Those who are experiencing Covid-19 symptoms are not eligible for the Stay to Learn testing.

  • Stay to Learn testing is for high-risk potential exposures, which occur if either the positive case or the close contact is not masked.

  • If both the positive case and the close contact are wearing masks, the exposure is deemed low-risk, and no testing is needed. In that situation, the positive case isolates, and the low-risk close contact can continue to attend school provided the close contact is not experiencing symptoms.

  • If the BinaxNOW rapid antigen test result is positive, a PCR saliva test should be given to confirm the positive result.

  • The number of tests we can administer each day will be determined by staffing and capacity. Although our goal is to test all students and staff who are eligible, there will be a defined number of slots. Those will be filled on a first come basis. If your student is eligible to be vaccinated, we encourage you to strongly consider that option, as fully vaccinated individuals and those who have a documented case of Covid-19 within the last 6 months are not subject to quarantine due to potential exposure as a close contact, provided they are not experiencing symptoms.

Other testing options
We will continue to accept Covid-19 test results from outside medical facilities for those families who choose to do this. Please remember costs, if any, associated with outside testing are the family’s responsibility. The Stay to Learn Daily COVID Testing Options document includes a list of community testing facilities. This is not an all-inclusive list. In addition, Wichita State University has a helpful website of community testing facilities that provide testing. Families wishing to participate may drop off the test results beginning at 7 a.m. at the current District Office, 1411 N. Main St.. We will accept lab results from physicians, pharmacies or medical facilities. Here are the requirements for those test results:

  • Test results are good for 24 hours. Thus, the time that a daily test is taken will need to stay consistent throughout the Stay to Learn period.

  • At-home tests will not be accepted.

  • Antibody tests will not be accepted.

  • Only PCR and Antigen tests will be accepted.

The district is excited to partner with Andover Drug, located at 307 US-54 #200 in Andover, on testing. Andover Drug has allotted daily spots for district students and staff members who need testing. You can access their online signup at
