In honor of the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Meadowlark Elementary teachers have brought Star Wars to the classroom! Throughout the week in the library, art, music and physical education classes, students have had the opportunity to read and learn from Star Wars, create comic book strips and Skype with comic book artist Matthew Manning, perform Star Wars songs and participate in a lightsaber duel using pool noodles!

On Thursday Dec. 17, Meadowlark hosted a Star Wars Comic-Con where students dressed up as their favorite Star Wars characters and participated in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) activities focused on coding skills.

The stations that students will participate in are below:

  • K-5 Hot Wheels Speedometry - Physics with Hot Wheels track and cars
  • K-5 Art station - Design Your Own Droid collaborative art mural.
  • K-5 Code.org - Computer coding with Star Wars characters
  • K-5 The Foos - Computer Coding with an online game 
  • K-5 Tynker - Computer Coding in an app for kids
  • K-5 Osmo Newton - Engineering challenge in an app
  • K-2 Unplugged activities - Coding with paper and Robot Turtles board game
  • K-3 Dash Robot - Computer coding for primary students using a STEM robot
  • 3-5 Makey Makey - An invention kit for students to learn electronic circuitry 
  • 4-5 Sphero - Computer coding for upper elementary using a STEM robot
